Jakarta – Refractive errors like myopia (nearsightedness) often become a barrier for some individuals pursuing careers such as pilots, models, athletes, sports enthusiasts, military personnel, and police officers. However, with advancements in technology, myopia can now be fully corrected using laser eye vision procedures like those offered by Mayapada Eye Centre (MEC).

Officially launched on Friday, June 21, 2024, the first MEC unit is located at Mayapada Hospital South Jakarta, offering cutting-edge LASIK and SMILE Pro technology. These procedures allow patients to eliminate their dependence on glasses or contact lenses.

As a result, if a patient has a medical history that requires prior treatment before undergoing LASIK or SMILE Pro, they can receive immediate care at the hospital. Other eye disorders, including cataracts, eye infections, emergencies, pediatric eye conditions, and retinal disorders (optic nerve issues), can also be treated at Mayapada Hospital South Jakarta.

Navin Sonthalia, COO of Mayapada Healthcare, sees a strong potential for expansion over the next 10 years. He believes MEC could grow into 10 units across various cities, especially given the significant global rise in myopia cases due to prolonged screen exposure from gadgets and digital devices.

“From my perspective, within the next 10 years, there is an opportunity to open 10 units like this. That is our goal,” he stated during the MEC launch event on Friday, June 21, 2024.

“But we will observe the progress. For us, the priority is to ensure top-quality execution and service. This is our first unit, and just like Mayapada Hospital—five or six years ago, not many people knew about it. But because of its excellent service and word-of-mouth testimonials, it has now become one of the best hospitals in Indonesia,” he added.
