Transform Your Vision with SMILE PRO

State-of-the-art technology for myopia and astigmatism surgery: Faster recovery, minimally invasive, and clearer vision.

What is Laser Vision Correction?

Laser Vision Correction, also known as refractive surgery or vision correction surgery, utilizes advanced laser technology to reshape the cornea, thereby correcting vision. This procedure eliminates the need for glasses or contact lenses.

When is Laser Vision Correction Recommended?

Laser Vision Correction is typically recommended for individuals seeking to improve their vision. Often, poor vision is caused by an irregularly shaped cornea. This surgery corrects the corneal shape, enhancing clarity of vision.

What is SMILE PRO?

SMILE PRO, an evolution of ReLEx SMILE technology, is designed to treat myopia (nearsightedness) and astigmatism. This procedure involves using a precise laser to create and remove a small lenticule inside the cornea through a minimal incision (<4mm), without the need for a corneal flap.

Advantages of SMILE PRO: it boasts shorter surgery times, with lenticule creation taking less than 10 seconds per eye. This procedure is performed exclusively with the VISUMAX® 800, equipped with PatientSky Lighting for enhanced comfort and reduced anxiety.

How is the SMILE PRO Procedure Conducted?

Anesthesia Application

Before the procedure, anesthetic eye drops are administered to ensure comfort. An eyelid holder is used to prevent blinking.

Lenticule Creation and Incision

Using the VisuMax® 800 laser, a precise lenticule is created within the eye, tailored to your specific myopia or astigmatism. Simultaneously, a small incision is made on the eye’s surface.

Lenticule Removal

The created lenticule is gently removed through the small incision, ensuring minimal disturbance to the eye.

Correction and Recovery

With the lenticule removed, light entering the eye is redirected, restoring sharp vision. The small incision promotes swift and natural healing

How is SMILE PRO Performed?

Frequently Asked Questions

SMILE, or Small Incision Lenticule Extraction, is the latest innovation in laser eye surgery. This minimally invasive procedure corrects vision problems like myopia and astigmatism.

Essentially, a laser creates a lens-shaped layer beneath the eye’s surface, which is then removed through a small opening made by the same laser, reshaping the eye for better vision.

SMILE PRO is an advanced version of the SMILE procedure, utilizing the state-of-the-art VISUMAX 800® laser technology.

This advancement reduces the laser duration to just 10 seconds, minimizing patient anxiety and enhancing the overall safety of the procedure.

The cost of SMILE PRO at Mayapada Eye Centre varies based on individual needs and eye conditions. Please contact us for a personalized cost estimate.

We use the ZEISS VisuMax® femtosecond laser, the first and only laser approved for performing SMILE PRO.

This technology creates a lenticule and an incision smaller than 6 mm within the intact cornea, significantly reducing side cuts by up to 80% and cap cuts by up to 30% compared to traditional LASIK flaps

Candidates for SMILE PRO are individuals seeking an alternative to glasses and contact lenses, with myopia between ≥ -1.0 D and ≤ -8.0 D. Ideal candidates should also have a refractive cylinder of ≤ -0.5 D and a maximum MRSE of ≤ -8.25 D.

Like all vision correction options, SMILE carries some risks. However, SMILE is a proven and safe method, with over 750,000 procedures performed worldwide. Unlike other methods, SMILE doesn’t require a flap, eliminating flap-related complications.

Potential complications, similar to other corneal refractive procedures like LASIK and PRK, include infection, DLK, interface inflammation, suction loss during surgery, epithelial abrasion, perforated cap, temporary dryness, corneal edema, retained lenticule, and ectasia.

Patients typically resume normal activities the next day after SMILE PRO. Without a flap, patients can wear makeup sooner and usually swim within a week.

Most patients notice clearer vision within one to two weeks and can drive and participate in daily activities during this period.

SMILE PRO corrects myopia, astigmatism, or both but is not currently an option for hyperopia. Factors like the degree of refractive error, corneal curvature, and thickness are considered.

Your profession and hobbies, especially if you engage in contact sports, are also important. A thorough eye examination will determine if you’re a suitable candidate.

Recovery times vary, but most patients see improvements in one to two days, with vision stabilizing within a week. A few days after treatment, patients can typically drive, work, and participate in sports without glasses or contact lenses.

SMILE, available since 2011 and evolving into SMILE PRO, is the latest in laser vision correction. Recognized by medical trade associations, its popularity is growing, with over 2,500 surgeons performing millions of treatments worldwide.

Femtosecond laser technology, used in Femto-LASIK and cataract surgery, is clinically proven. SMILE PRO, the latest development using this technology, has been in clinical studies since 2007 and commercially available since 2011.

Early SMILE patients have been monitored for over ten years, and the procedure is now performed in more than 80 countries.

Both LASIK and SMILE PRO are proven methods with high satisfaction rates. SMILE PRO is less invasive and has a lower risk of post-surgical infection or temporary dry eye syndrome.

LASIK offers slightly quicker visual recovery. Your surgeon can recommend the best treatment based on your refractive errors, eye conditions, and anatomy.

Costs for SMILE PRO and LASIK can vary due to the different laser technologies used and are determined by each clinic individually.
