Penderita Rabun dan Silinder Meningkat di Usia Produktif
Jakarta – As life expectancy continues to increase and daily lifestyles evolve, healthcare is no longer focused solely on living longer but also on maintaining a better quality of life. In this context, eye health has become an increasingly important concern, particularly due to the widespread use of digital devices.
According to dr. Zoraya Ariefia Feranthy, Ophthalmologist at Mayapada Eye Centre, refractive errors such as myopia (nearsightedness) and astigmatism are becoming increasingly common among working-age adults.
She explained that spending long hours looking at digital screens or reading at close distances forces the eyes to work continuously, increasing the risk of eye strain and vision problems.
“Myopia and astigmatism are becoming increasingly common among working-age individuals as digital device use begins earlier in life. Yet, good vision is a fundamental part of maintaining a high quality of life,” said dr. Zoraya.
She added that many people spend most of their day in front of screens or reading for extended periods. As a result, their eyes become more susceptible to fatigue and refractive errors.
These conditions often lead people to rely on eyeglasses or contact lenses for clear vision.
However, according to dr. Zoraya, corrective eyewear may affect comfort and daily productivity for some individuals. Therefore, maintaining good eye health should be considered an essential part of preserving overall quality of life and supporting everyday activities.
During the same event, physician and health educator dr. Gia Pratama shared his personal experience regarding the impact of vision quality on daily routines and productivity.
“As a doctor with a busy and dynamic schedule, comfortable vision greatly affects my productivity. After undergoing SMILE Pro, many daily activities became much more practical because I no longer depend on glasses. For me, it’s about seeing more clearly, working more comfortably, and enjoying a better quality of life,” he said.
Meanwhile, Navin Sonthalia, President Director & CEO of Mayapada Healthcare, said that the growing public awareness of quality of life has increased the demand for healthcare services that focus not only on life expectancy but also on helping people remain healthy, active, and productive throughout their lives.
“In the longevity era, people are no longer focused solely on lifespan but also on maintaining a healthy, active, and productive life at every age. In this regard, eye health is one of the key aspects that should be preserved to support everyday activities,” he said.
As part of its vision correction services, Mayapada Eye Centre (MEC) offers two advanced procedures designed to address different vision conditions.
SMILE Pro is a femtosecond laser vision correction procedure developed to help treat myopia (nearsightedness) and astigmatism.
Meanwhile, PRESBYOND is designed for patients with presbyopia, an age-related condition that gradually affects the ability to focus on both near and distant objects as part of the natural aging process.
