Strengthening the Ecosystem, Mayapada Expands Specialist Services in the CBD Area

Jakarta – Work patterns involving prolonged exposure to digital screens have increased the risk of progressive vision disorders among professionals in Jakarta. Eye conditions such as glaucoma, digital eye strain, and retinal complications are now reported to be more common among the productive-age population, often developing without clear early symptoms.

This situation has created a growing medical urgency for the presence of eye subspecialty facilities in central business districts, one of which is reflected in the opening of the new Mayapada Eye Centre (MEC) unit in Sudirman, South Jakarta.

Chief Operating Officer of Mayapada Eye Centre, Navin Nathani, explained that the location was strategically chosen to bring early detection services closer to professionals who face time constraints yet are at high risk due to prolonged gadget use.

Consultant Ophthalmologist, dr. Ucok P. Pasaribu, Sp.M(K), added that many eye disorders among office workers are progressive in nature. Without routine examinations, damage is often only detected at an advanced stage.

“Factors such as excessive screen time and lack of eye rest accelerate digital eye strain. The support of diagnostic technology for precise diagnosis is crucial for the productive-age group to prevent permanent decline in vision quality,” he stated.

The Link Between Systemic Diseases and Eye Health

Beyond fatigue-related issues, vision disorders among urban populations are often closely associated with other medical conditions. Eye care is no longer approached in isolation but must be integrated with a patient’s overall health condition.

Medical services in the Sudirman area have begun implementing a multidisciplinary care system. This approach is essential, as eye disorders are often linked to neurological diseases, stroke, diabetes, and autoimmune conditions. Through coordinated multidisciplinary care, long-term complications can be identified and managed earlier.

President Director & CEO of Mayapada Healthcare, Navin Sonthalia, emphasized that healthcare facilities in strategic business locations are expected to encourage urban professionals to be more proactive in undergoing routine eye examinations.

In addition to preventive care, patients can also access treatment for conditions such as cataracts through phacoemulsification and glaucoma through trabeculectomy procedures.
