Bloomberg Technoz, Jakarta – Mayapada Healthcare (PT Sekahreraraya Anugrahjaya Tbk) has officially launched Mayapada Eye Centre (MEC), offering Laser Vision Correction services, including LASIK and SMILE PRO procedures.
Jonathan Tahir, Chairman & Group CEO of Mayapada Healthcare, stated that the launch of MEC was driven by the high demand for vision correction services.
“We are very proud to introduce this new service to the people of Indonesia. We hope this will be the first of many, and we look forward to opening a second, third branch in the future,” Jonathan said during the launch event at Mayapada Hospital, Jakarta, on Friday (June 21, 2024).
According to him, the demand for such services will continue to rise, in line with the increasing trend of gadget usage.
In this regard, Mayapada Healthcare’s COO, Navin Sonthalia, highlighted that refractive errors, or myopia, affect 25% of the Indonesian population—around 55 million people. He also predicted that this figure would continue to grow to 40%-50% in the next 10-15 years, mainly among active digital device users.
“In recent decades, refractive errors have become a major issue in eye health in Indonesia,” Navin stated.
Laser vision correction, also known as refractive surgery, is a vision correction procedure that uses laser technology to reshape the cornea, allowing for improved vision.
MEC offers two types of laser procedures for refractive surgery or vision correction: LASIK and SMILE PRO.
