Jakarta, CNN Indonesia – Mayapada Healthcare has launched its newest business unit, Mayapada Eye Centre, aiming to become a leading eye care center in Indonesia. This initiative aligns with Mayapada Hospital’s vision of providing comprehensive and high-quality healthcare services.
Jonathan Tahir, Chairman & Group CEO of Mayapada Healthcare, emphasized the company’s commitment to continuous innovation in delivering exceptional healthcare services.
He is confident that Mayapada Eye Centre will meet the public’s needs for optimal vision, ultimately enhancing patients’ productivity and quality of life.
“The location of Mayapada Eye Centre within Mayapada Hospital South Jakarta ensures that its operations are fully integrated and adhere to international JCI standards already implemented at the hospital,” he stated during the Soft Opening Ceremony of Mayapada Eye Centre on Friday, June 21.
On the same occasion, Navin Sonthalia, Chief Operating Officer of Mayapada Healthcare Group, highlighted that since the opening of the first Mayapada Hospital in 2009, the company has continuously innovated and expanded its healthcare services to meet public demand.
“This growth is not just about numbers; we aim to make our hospitals as comprehensive as possible. We saw an opportunity to establish an eye center, as we previously focused on cardiology, oncology, orthopedics, and neurology,” he told CNN Indonesia.
He further noted that myopia (nearsightedness) is rising globally, with an estimated 25–30% of the world’s population currently affected. This figure is expected to reach 45% within the next 15 years.
A lifestyle shift towards prolonged screen time is one of the primary causes of this increase. “Recognizing this trend, Mayapada sees a major opportunity to expand vision correction services using the latest technology,” he added.
Competitive Advantages of Mayapada Eye Centre
One of Mayapada Eye Centre’s key strengths lies in its integration with Mayapada Hospital, which is JCI (Joint Commission International) accredited. This allows for comprehensive patient care, particularly for those with complex health conditions such as diabetes or glaucoma, which may require additional medical attention.
Navin emphasized that in the next 6 to 12 months, Mayapada plans to open 2 to 3 additional Eye Centre branches in major cities such as Surabaya and Bandung.
“Mayapada Eye Centre aims to establish up to 10 units over the next 10 years. Our primary focus is on executing each development phase flawlessly,” he stated.
With this strategy, Mayapada Eye Centre aims to become Indonesia’s premier eye care center, following the successful track record of Mayapada Hospital in delivering top-tier medical services.
Latest Technology and Exclusive Services
Mayapada Eye Centre features advanced technology, including SMILE Pro, an evolution of the traditional LASIK procedure.
According to Putu Deddy Suhartawan, Chief Operating Officer of Mayapada Eye Centre, this cutting-edge technology offers greater precision and faster recovery times.
“At Mayapada Eye Centre, we specialize in Laser Vision Correction. We see significant market potential in this field,” he explained.
Compared to other existing eye centers in Indonesia, Deddy acknowledged that the technology and services offered are similar. However, Mayapada Eye Centre differentiates itself by providing additional services tailored to patient needs.
One standout feature is the Vision Assistant (VIA) service, which offers comprehensive support to both local and out-of-town patients. VIA assists with airport pickups, hotel accommodations, and personal guidance throughout the treatment process at Mayapada Eye Centre.
“When a patient undergoes a procedure, VIA will also educate their family members and companions, allowing them to understand the process,” he added.
Moreover, since Mayapada Eye Centre is located within the Mayapada Hospital South Jakarta complex, it is fully integrated with all existing hospital services.
This ensures that if additional medical care is needed, everything can be handled seamlessly under one roof.
Notably, Mayapada Hospital South Jakarta (MHJS) holds JCI accreditation, guaranteeing that all patient services adhere to global healthcare standards.
“We are fully integrated within the hospital, equipped with an operating room, and for patients with conditions like high blood sugar, we can provide immediate medical support at MHJS,” Deddy concluded.
