KOMPAS.com – As we age, the eye’s ability to focus on near objects gradually declines. This condition, commonly known as presbyopia or age-related farsightedness, typically begins to affect individuals over the age of 40. As a result, many people become dependent on reading glasses or even need to switch between different pairs of glasses for various activities.
With advancements in ophthalmic technology, there are now vision correction alternatives specifically designed for this condition, one of which is PRESBYOND Laser Blended Vision, also known as PRESBYOND LASIK.
Consultant Ophthalmologist at Mayapada Eye Centre, dr. Ucok P. Pasaribu, Sp.M(K), explained that this technology is designed to support both near and distance vision simultaneously for individuals with presbyopia.
“PRESBYOND LASIK is intended for distance vision, age-related vision, and farsightedness. For individuals aged 40 and above, it provides an opportunity to reduce dependence on glasses, as long as their eye condition is suitable,” he said following the inauguration of Mayapada Eye Centre Sudirman on Wednesday (January 28, 2026).
What is PRESBYOND LASIK?
PRESBYOND Laser Blended Vision is a laser-based technology developed to treat presbyopia. While conventional LASIK typically focuses on correcting distance vision, PRESBYOND LASIK is designed to enable the eyes to see clearly at close range, such as when reading.
This technology uses a blended vision approach, optimizing how both eyes work together across multiple viewing distances. As a result, everyday activities—such as reading, working in front of a screen, and driving—can be performed more comfortably.
Who is Eligible for This Procedure?
According to dr. Ucok, PRESBYOND LASIK is generally intended for individuals aged 40 and above who are beginning to experience presbyopia—whether they previously had nearsightedness (myopia), farsightedness (hyperopia), or no prior vision issues.
However, not everyone is immediately eligible for the procedure. A comprehensive eye examination and consultation are essential before undergoing treatment.
“The standard range is up to minus 8 and plus 3. This will be discussed during consultation with the doctor. The best outcomes are typically seen in patients with minus 8 or lower, although higher prescriptions may still be possible with an experienced surgeon,” he explained.
Reducing Dependence on Glasses
One of the main goals of PRESBYOND Laser Blended Vision is to reduce dependence on glasses, especially for active individuals who want greater flexibility in their daily activities.
However, results may vary for each individual, depending on eye condition and adaptability. PRESBYOND LASIK is not an instant, one-size-fits-all solution, but rather a personalized vision correction option tailored to each patient’s needs.
The LASIK procedure itself is relatively quick, taking approximately 20 minutes. Patients can typically experience clearer vision within 24–48 hours after the procedure.
For individuals aged 40 and above, or those beginning to notice changes in their vision, PRESBYOND Laser Blended Vision can be considered as an alternative solution—provided it is supported by proper medical consultation and guidance.
