Jakarta – Excessive use of digital devices can harm eye health. Consultant Ophthalmologist at Mayapada Eye Centre, dr. Ucok P. Pasaribu, Sp.M(K), explained that many eye diseases are progressive and develop without clear early symptoms, often only being noticed once they begin to interfere with daily activities.
“Factors such as excessive screen time, lack of eye rest, and poor workplace lighting can accelerate digital eye strain and other vision problems,” he stated on Friday (January 30, 2025).
He added that with the support of modern diagnostic technology and subspecialist expertise, early detection and precise diagnosis are possible, allowing treatment strategies to be tailored to each patient’s needs. This approach enables more targeted and sustainable care while minimizing the risk of permanent vision impairment and long-term complications.
“This is especially important for the productive-age group, so that both vision quality and overall quality of life can be maintained,” he explained.
Meanwhile, Chief Operating Officer of Mayapada Eye Centre, Navin Nathani, highlighted that in the daily lives of urban professionals—who are exposed to digital screens for extended periods through computers, laptops, and smartphones—complaints such as dry eyes, digital eye strain, and difficulty focusing are common and directly impact productivity.
“Advanced, modern, and easily accessible eye care solutions, combined with a premium and integrated service experience, can help maintain visual quality without disrupting daily work routines,” he added.
