Are You Looking for a Solution to Be Free from Glasses or Contact Lenses? Laser Vision Correction (LVC) Could Be the Answer.
LVC is a procedure that utilizes advanced laser technology to correct vision problems such as myopia and astigmatism.
In this article, we will discuss more about what LVC is, the technology used, and how this procedure works to restore your visual acuity.
What Is Laser Vision Correction (LVC) and How Does It Work?
Laser Vision Correction (LVC) is an advanced method used to correct vision problems using laser technology.
LVC includes various procedures such as LASIK, PRK, and SMILE PRO, each of which has its own unique approach and advantages.
Definition of LVC and the Technology Used
Laser Vision Correction (LVC) is a medical procedure that uses laser technology to correct refractive errors such as myopia (nearsightedness) and astigmatism.
With LVC, patients can reduce or even eliminate their dependence on glasses or contact lenses.
3 Main Types of LVC Technology
There are three main types of LVC technology commonly used:
1. LASIK (Laser-Assisted In Situ Keratomileusis)
This is the most popular type of LVC. The LASIK procedure involves creating a thin flap on the surface of the cornea using a microkeratome or femtosecond laser.
Then, an excimer laser is used to reshape the cornea so that light can focus correctly onto the retina. Afterward, the flap is returned to its original position.
2. PRK (Photorefractive Keratectomy)
Unlike LASIK, PRK does not involve creating a flap. Instead, the epithelial layer of the cornea is carefully removed, and an excimer laser is used to smooth the surface of the cornea.
The healing process for PRK generally takes longer than LASIK because it requires time for the corneal epithelium to regenerate.
3. SMILE Pro (Small Incision Lenticule Extraction Pro)
SMILE Pro is a minimally invasive technique that uses a femtosecond laser to remove a small lenticule from the cornea through a small incision.
Without creating a flap or removing the epithelial layer, this method results in a biomechanically more stable cornea and reduces dry eye symptoms, offering faster and more comfortable recovery. It is ideal for patients with thin corneas or those active in sports.
