Jakarta (ANTARA) – Access to eye care services for urban communities in Jakarta has expanded with the opening of a new clinic by Mayapada Eye Centre (MEC) at Mayapada Tower 2, Sudirman, South Jakarta.
The clinic provides comprehensive eye care services supported by specialist and subspecialist ophthalmologists, covering cornea, glaucoma, retina, and pediatric ophthalmology. The facility is equipped with advanced diagnostic technology to support early detection of vision disorders.
Consultant Ophthalmologist at Mayapada Eye Centre, dr. Ucok P. Pasaribu, Sp.M(K), stated that vision disorders remain a common health issue that often goes unnoticed, particularly among individuals of productive age in urban areas.
“Many eye diseases are progressive and do not show symptoms in the early stages. These conditions are often only detected once they begin to interfere with daily activities, especially among workers with high exposure to digital screens,” he said.
He explained that prolonged use of digital devices, lack of adequate eye rest, and suboptimal workplace lighting can increase the risk of eye strain and other vision problems. Regular eye examinations are therefore essential to support early detection and prevent more serious visual impairments.
In addition to diagnostic services, the clinic also offers medical procedures such as cataract surgery, glaucoma treatment, and retinal care. The clinic is integrated with other medical services within the Mayapada Hospital network to support the management of patients with comorbidities, including diabetes, neurological disorders, and cardiovascular diseases.
The inauguration of MEC Sudirman was also marked by a scientific forum titled the Laser Vision Correction (LVC) Summit on January 25, 2026, which discussed the latest technological advancements and clinical approaches in vision care.
Mayapada Healthcare stated that the development of these eye care services is expected to enhance public awareness of the importance of maintaining eye health, in line with the increasing visual demands of urban lifestyles.
